I was planning to make a sweater in Malabrigo Rios for a while. I made lots of accessories in this fabulous yarn so a sweater was a must.

When I was planning what colors to buy I knew the sweater had to be green. However, I didn’t want to be too green, no way, so some contrast color was inevitable. I finally decided on green-blue combo, which is actually one of my favorite color pairs. And stripes! Who doesn’t love stripes???? But look closely! These stripes are not just some plain ones – when you join the colors you will work a row of slipped stitches creating a line of “pincers”. These little pincers made me think of various bugs, thus giving me inspiration to name the cardigan “Carabe”. Well, carabe is a beetle.

I made the sweater in September when it was so sunny and did not feel like fall at all. Now I look at these photos and I miss even the tiniest beams of sunshine on my skin. I don’t like November, it’s so gloomy and gray, but thankfully this year I have my Carabe to cheer me up. :-)

Carabe is a seamless striped cardigan knit from the top down.
The design uses contiguous method of shaping set-in sleeves developed by Suzie M.
It is is worked in Stockinette stitch mostly with several Carabe Stripes located on the yoke and next to bottom hem and cuffs. After completing the whole body you will make ribbed front bands and a shawl collar. The shawl collar will be shaped using short rows. At the end the whole band is finished with I-cord bind-off.

Sizes: 28/30 (32/34, 36/38) 40/42, 44/46, 48/50;
The cardigan should be worn with no or little amount of positive ease.
